Rapid HIV Testing

We offer free on-sit and off-site HIV testing with results available in one minute. The test involves a simple finger prick.

 

Support for People Living with HIV

The Sexual Health Centre provides a range of support for people living with HIV, their partners, family and friends. These include support groups, free one-on-one counselling and mentoring.


 

Crisis Pregnancy Support

The Sexual Health Centre supports anyone experiencing a crisis pregnancy. Our non-directive service provides practical information and support on all of your options: parenting, adoption or termination (abortion). We also offer professional and free post-termination counselling, regardless of the date of termination.


 

Support programme for people engaged with sex work

The Sexual Health Centre is committed to providing support, testing and information services to women, men and trans people working within the sex industry. All of the services we provide are completely confidential.


 

Sexual Health Support for Members of LGBTI+ Community

The Sexual Health Centre offers sexual health support to people from the LGBTI+ community to ensure that they feel included, accepted and valued. The support includes help with:

  • `Coming out’

  • Gender and sexuality

  • Relationships

  • Consent

  • STI’s

  • And more

Full STI Screening

Our STI clinic is currently being restructured. We will resume operation of this service as soon as possible.

There are a number of other options available in Cork

  1. Free Home STI Kits

    As of 30th September 2022, free home testing is available in every county across Ireland. Anyone who is aged 17 or over can order a free STI test to their home or other valid postal address in Ireland. There are a set number of kits available to order per day. If there are no more kits available when you try and order, please try again the following morning.

    The kits are in very discreet packaging- no mention of what it is externally. Instructions are provided on how to complete the test kit and a stamped addressed envelope is provided to post the completed test kit back to the lab. You should receive your results by phone or text message within 72 hours of the samples arriving at the lab.

2. The GUM clinic at the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital (SIVUH).

The GUM / STD Clinic is a free, HSE run sexual health service based in the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital (SIVUH), Cork. If you have a query or wish to make an appointment please contact GUM / STD Clinic directly at 021 4966 844.

The Gum Clinic operate a 24 hour voice mail service.
If you leave a clear message with your name and contact telephone number, they will return your call within 24-48 hours.

3. The Youth Health Service (YHS)

If you are under 23, you can contact the Youth Health Service (YHS) on 021 4937250. The YHS offers a free STI Clinic, and free contraception clinic for anyone aged 23 or under. Contact them directly to make an appointment.

Sexual health workshops

We deliver regular, professionally run sexual health and wellbeing workshops to individuals and groups. Clients include businesses, universities, homeless shelters, direct provision and migrant centres, non-mainstream schools and more.

Sexual Health Workshops for people with Intellectual Disabilities

We offer a series of 6 weekly group workshops for people with intellectual disabilities. Topics include:

  • Relationship building

  • Appropriate behaviours

  • Self-esteem

  • Contraception

  • Pregnancy

  • Consent

  • Sex

  • STIs

Marginalised groups support programme

We provide support and workshops for a variety of groups, including:

  • Teenagers from non-mainstream schools

  • People struggling with substance misuse and abuse

  • People experiencing homelessness

  • Migrants

  • Members of the Traveller community

Training

We offer WISE online training, a programme for professionals, such as teachers, youth workers and counsellors. It trains them to to run workshops delivering appropriate, non-biased sexual health education to young people. We work closely with a number of schools and universities, including UCC and MTU.
